Watch #ThisIsACoup – the story of Greece’s (unfinished) debt revolt

The debt crisis in Greece was constantly in the news in 2015, as the country made a brave attempt to throw off the shackles of unjust debt. But how often did we get the Greek side of the story?

Filmmaker Theopi Skarlatos and her team were in Greece from before January’s elections, interviewing activists, politicians, as well as people on the street, as the confrontation unfolded.

Now their documentary series, #ThisIsACoup, has been released. Produced and narrated by Channel 4 News economics editor Paul Mason, it tells the inside story of Greece’s attempts to negotiate a way out of its debt and austerity trap.

Devastating viewing

From the ecstasy of the anti-austerity election and referendum victories, to the agony of the third ‘memorandum’ imposed in July, it’s compelling – and devastating – viewing.

The films (which unsurprisingly contain some strong language) have been released for free online, and you can watch all four short episodes below.

It’s also well worth reading Paul Mason’s article for The Nation alongside it.
